About the artist: J.C.
My name is Joel, known to most of you as J.C.
I’m 1/5 of the original LunArt team and one of the artists of the Genesis Collection and the upcoming Julia Collection.
When introduced to the beauty of fractal art by our Founder, NameoCeo (Tim), I was blown away by the sheer beauty he was able to create. I was immediately hooked and wanted to learn it for myself. Fractal art is a form of digital art produced using mathematics and is a product of fractal geometry commonly known as “The Geometry of Nature”. What started as a curiosity has become a passion of creative expression.
I’ve drawn inspiration from my fellow artists in LunArt, my love of travelling, nature, music, art, photography, film, sci-fi and gaming. I wanted to insert an element of each of those passions into each of my pieces in The Genesis Collection. Having acquired some technical knowledge of photography, I wanted to put those techniques to use by utilising the rule of thirds, framing and creating a sense of depth. Fractal art is very organic so I found inspiration from my fondness of the natural world. I found I was drawn to the use of vibrant colour to make some images pop, while in others, I chose a ‘softer’, muted colour palette.
I used light and shade to create depth and a more three-dimensional look. An example of this is the piece ‘Cloudland’. I’m also drawn to perspective in art so many of my pieces give a sense of distance and form. Music had a large influence too, through either the tone or texture of a piece, or sometimes even inspiring the overall concept.
I took inspiration from visionary artist, Alex Gray, whose work I have admired since my teenage years. My piece ‘A.Gray Matter’ is an ode to his style of psychedelic art. Other iterations of this style can be seen throughout the Genesis Collection.
The pieces ‘Great White North’, ‘Jedi / Sith’, ‘Sonic’ and ‘Event Horizon’ were inspired by my travels, my Australian-Canadian background and love of sci-fi, video games and film.
Collaborating with the LunArt team in the creation of the Genesis Collection was an incredible experience. We hope as a team and as artists we were able to add value not only in utility but as an NFT you proudly keep in your digital wallet and one day printed and displayed in your home. With the upcoming Julia Collection, we are all taking artistic strides to bring something more effectual with the utility to match, stay tuned.
